Day 2: Rockefeller and Times Square

At around noon, Simon had a meeting with the other Stormix employees at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, where they were going to scope out the place where the Linux World Exposition was to be held. Since the delivery of Stormix's booth/supplies was delayed, not much could be done. So everyone decided to spend the day seeing a bit more of NYC. Everyone split up and our plans were to visit Rockefeller Center, then take a walking tour down to Times Square. We took a cab to Rockefeller and after walking around there a bit, we oriented ourselves in the city and headed for Times Square. Rockefeller was a great place to visit and regrettably we didn't tour NBC Studios or see St. Patrick's Cathedral while in the area. Still, our eyes had much to feast on from the outside. Times Square was unbelievable. We didn't think much of it, but had wanted to see it since it was the hotspot this past New Years Eve. The countless advertisements and millions of lights take your breath away, especially at night. Mixed with Broadway musical marquees and restaurants, it's definitely a must-see for any New York traveler. After eating at the Times Square Olive Garden, we walked around in awe for awhile until we caught a taxi back to the Holiday Inn. There, we just rested our weary feet, watched a movie, played some solitaire, and had fun looking at all of the pictures we took during the day... Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

The NBC News Studios, where the "Today" show is taped. We could have been on television if we woke up before dawn, but we weren't that inspired ;)
30 Rockefeller Plaza, right up from the ice rink. Getting dizzy yet?
The outside marquee for the NBC Rainbow Room, which Simon excitedly took a picture of because it's the marquee that can be seen on Saturday Night Live's opening credits. Note: The Rainbow Room (built in 1934) was once a glamourous dinner/dancing hot-spot.
