What are you up to?

Christine, 4/99[Wolfie] These past few months have been pretty busy for me! In November '98, my friend Tristin, her boyfriend Alex, and I flew on a whim to Vancouver to visit my Canadian beau, Simon. The trip was pretty short notice and we decided it on impulse. I was planning that Simon'd know that Tristin and Alex were coming, but he wouldn't know I was coming also. He kept hinting how he wanted me to come so many times weeks before the trip that one night I was just too excited to keep it secret and I had to tell him (he was quite surprised, I must say!) Since I thought I was going to be surprising Simon, I rented a room at the Metropolitan Hotel for the first night so I wouldn't have to impose on his parents. I was lucky because due to the lack of business, they bumped me into the grand suite. Talk about class! We had a real fun time even though the weather wasn't exactly the most pleasant (it rained every day). Since we weren't to be home with our families during Thanksgiving, Simon's mom gave us a great turkey dinner and I was given the chance to meet Simon's brother's girlfriend. We went to Victoria, saw a lot of downtown Vancouver, and we acted crazy (whichChristine, taken while Simon was visiting, 12/98 isn't out of the normal for Tristin & I). I had a nice Christmas at home and a couple days later Simon flew to Michigan to be with me for a week and see in the New Year with me. We went out with Tristin and Alex, went snowmobiling, and Simon was able to meet a few more members of my family. Then, Simon flew to see me again during my Spring Break in February while my parents were gone to Florida/Bahamas. Another tidbit of info is that I'm an Aunt again! Just this past month (April 13), my sister-in-law had a little baby boy, named Matthew John. He was born five weeks early, thus was only 3.6 lbs at birth. There have been complications with his being born too early, but it's too early to tell how severe they are! I have a picture of him here. I've been keeping rather busy with school. I'm finishing up my fourth year (no, I'm not done yet, sigh) but I've been figuring out what I want to do once I graduate with a degree in Business Management/Marketing. I eventually want to work towards receiving my MBA in Business, but I'm not jumping at Grad school quite yet. I'll see what happens once I get out into the workforce. Besides, life is much more fun when you don't restrict yourself to a narrow plan. :) I'm still working as webmaster for the MTU Library and will continue to do so during the summer because my boss (head webmaster) is pregnant and will be leaving on maternity leave during August.

Also during the summer, Simon and I are finally putting an end to our long distance relationship! He's planning on moving to Michigan! He and I are planning on getting our own place closer to where I go to school. I've been planning on moving into my own apartment this summer anyway, but he and I really want to be together. He's currently seeking employment that will sponsor his visa, but even if he doesn't get that right away, he can visit for up to six months and after that amount of time we'll see what we want to do if he doesn't have a job. We're planning the move to be in early June so I'll probably be taking another road trip across the US except I won't have Louie to fight with me for the front seat (aw shucks ;)) Simon, 4/99

[Simon] Not much has changed with me yet (still working at NetNation), but this summer (hopefully in June) I expect to be moving over to be with my sweetheart!

As Wolfie said, we've managed to get together three times recently! Back in November, '98, Tristin, Alex, and my sweetheart came over and we stayed downtown for a night with Tristin and Alex and then Christine stayed at my house while Tristin and Alex stayed downtown for the rest of the week (er, during the night I mean ;) ). We had a lot of fun doing a lot of shopping, going to restaurants like Planet Hollywood, watching movies, and going to places locally and in Victoria (the Cheesecake Cafe rules!). We had a blast!

Simon in front of the Craigdorroch Castle in Victoria, BC, 11/98I also went to visit Wolfie just after Christmas and again just recently (oy, feels like a year ago, though :( ), during Christine's Spring Break. We really are ready to be together already -- we're both trying really hard to try to get things to go our way so that we can be together. I know for sure that we both have a lifetime of happiness ahead of us together. But, uhm, anybody know a place in the U.P. where I could work? Right now we're looking at BresnanLink, a cablemodem internet access company...I hope things work out.

I think it's really neat that there are so many relationships that have started on #wolfden! Reine and Duane, congrats! I hope we can make it to your wedding...that would be really cool. :)

What are your thoughts on #wolfden and its ending? Would you ever want to see it back as it was?

[Wolfie] When I think about all the fun we've had together, online & at the reunion, I sometimes regret not sticking with the channel longer. I miss all of you so very much and have such good memories of last summer when I got to meet some of you in real life. I sometimes wish it was back as it used to be, but I know we're all very busy and even if it were still around, we'd all be too busy to spend as much time on #wolfden as we had. Still, I hope we'll all keep in close contact via online or email as time goes by. And having another reunion would be really great, too. We'll have to do that again sometime! If any of you ever want to chat, you can sometimes find me or Simon on #wolfden's original server, blue.netnation.com, even though I'm not in #wolfden anymore. Whatever happens in the future for all of us, I want you all to know that you all are very special to me and I'll never forget those couple of years when I stayed up til the wee hours of night goofing and laughing (not to mention sleeping) online with all of you!

[Simon] I don't know if we'd be able to keep things going if it were back the way it was -- all of our lives have changed quite a bit since it was the quite active channel it used to be. But I'd love to have either an online and/or an in-person reunion perhaps annually or something so that we can catch up with everybody on what's happening! That would be quite cool. :) We had a lot of fun at the reunion, and I miss being able to talk with everybody on the channel.

Also, a note too all of you people who connect and then run away like you just stepped into a ghost town: Wolfie and I are probably still there! We're just not on the channel, so feel free to /msg! :)
