| What are you
up to? Where do I begin?! :) As some of
you might know, one of my professors and I are starting an Internet-based company. My
professor, Anthony Fragola, is Italian, and he's really into Italian culture but he
doesn't know a lot about computers. Fall 98 semester I was in a class he taught called
"Development of Digital Media" and we learned about compression, CD-ROM
technology, the development of the Internet, etc. (it was an easy A) :) Anyway, through
the class Fragola and I got to know each other pretty well, and because most of the class
didn't know much about computers I was able to help the others to understand the topics.
Towards the end of the semester, Fragola and I began discussing the possibility of
creating an Internet-based company, and I thought it would be a good idea. We started
planning it out towards the end of Nov, and as of about a month ago, we have a domain
registered and it's ready to go -- except for one part: the shopping cart. So as of now
you can't buy anything, but soon you can. The address is:
www.i-as.com
and the name is Italian-American Supermercato. We'll be selling Italian food, books,
movies, paintings/photos, and lots of other Italian stuff. So check it out. :)

In addition to that, Fragola knew this guy named Scott
Bushell from many years ago. They had taught Italian together at UNCG for a while. Scott
is English, but he came to the US many years ago. He is fluent in (other than English)
German, Italian, Spanish, and has a Doctorate in French. He can also read Russian. His
wife is German, and she has a Ph.D. in German, and speaks French and English. Anyway, the
Bushells own an Import/Export company; they sell glass working machines (cutting,
drilling, polishing, cleaning, etc.). The company is pretty small, only about 8 employees
other than me, and all the people are supernice.
They wanted to upgrade 2 of their computers and get a new one (for me to use), create a
new brochure of their glass machines, and get a homepage. Fragola mentioned this to me and
said he had told Scott about my computer knowledge, so Fragola and I went down to his
company on Jan 1 and the 3 of us talked about this. I accepted the offer, and began
searching for computer stuff for them. I put the three computers together from
"scratch" (I ordered all the parts separately).
Finally, the computers were mostly put together by the end of January, but only the one I
was using was fully functional. We needed a full weekend set aside to transfer over to the
new computers, and we just didn't have a free weekend because Scott kept having to go away
on business trips and stuff. So I started working on the brochure with the one working
computer and the other two new ones sat there. I had tons of stuff to scan in, pictures to
edit, and pages to lay out. They're all going to this trade show in Atlanta the first week
of April, and the brochure needed to be ready by then, so it was more important anyway.
Finally, after a lot of work, the brochure is nearly
finished and we'll be sending it to the printer this week [March
21-27]. And I'm happy to report that this weekend we
switched over to the new computers and got the network back up today (3/22). I switched
the computers, but since I don't know anything about networks they called the guy who
originally installed the network and I got to work with him and learned some stuff.
Other than that, the EURODANCE continues to pour out the latest and greatest in EuroDANCE
Power every weekend!!! And this semester, it's on ***3*** hours on Saturday Afternoon,
rather than 2 hours Fri night as it was last year. :D I have asked the Station Manager
about broadcasting on the Internet, but I'm waiting to hear from the engineer... I was
told he's really hard to get ahold of. But if we could broadcast on the Internet, you guys
could jam along!!!!!!!! :D
That's it for me. I just gotta finish up the brochure and set up the homepage.
Sorry for rambling on so much!!! I hope you weren't bored to death. :)
What are your thoughts on
#wolfden and its ending? Would you ever want to see it back as it was?
Sure, it would be nice to have the den back. Since it
"ended" I hardly ever go on IRC anymore... |
